Is there a version of this engine which has a distributor ? I'm looking for a replacement engine, mine has the coil packs under the cover but I keep see-ing engines with what looks like a distributor where the four leads go on. Will this engine fit in mine ?

There is a 2.0 version of this engine, although most of the dizzy lumps will be early 8-valve Sierra type I4 units, some have a single coil pack with all four leads coming out of it.

AFAIK all the later 16-valve variants are coil pack engines from 2.0 Mondeos or 2.3 Galaxies, and there are some mechanical differences.

Anything is possible but you can't really use a dizzy with the Gals ECU since you'll have nothing to plug into it.

IIRC Someone here fitted a 2.0 16-valve I4 Mondeo unit to their dead 2.3 but it was a big job for an experienced motor engineer, seek and ye shall find.

I think that the early VW 2litre unit fitted in the Sharan/Alhambra had a distributor.

The one's i've seen look identicle to the one in mine, have 2300 on the rocker cover, are in a Galaxy but it the coil packs are like the 2.0 version.

I think the coil pack with 4 ht sockets are from later engines & would probably require a different ecu.

the 2001 engine i fitted in my '99 galaxy had this type if a little charred from the under bonnet fire .
